There are many ways to serve at St. Philip’s and in our community. From altar service to outreach ministries, your gifts and talents can make a difference. Join us in living out Christ’s call to love and serve our neighbors!
Laundry Days
Once a month, volunteers help our Sharing House neighbors do their laundry at a local laundromat. Organized by our Christian Social Concerns Committee, the Laundry Project is a great opportunity for in-person outreach to people in our community by spending about two hours visiting together, while providing a vital service.
Sign up in Easel Alley outside the church office for a shift that suits you, or contact the office for more information.
The Red Wagon & Sharing House
St. Philip’s regularly collects items for Sharing House, a faith-based organization that connects residents of Transylvania County with crisis assistance and services such as food, clothing, and household goods. The Red Wagon in the hallway of the parish hall is the collection point for these donations. Requested items are published in the weekly bulletins and E-pistle; canned food and nonperishables are always welcome.
Special collections are taken for back-to-school supplies and Christmas gifts as well.

Towel Ministry
The Towel Ministry brings together volunteers who build ramps, modify bathrooms and do other projects in the homes of people in need, providing dignity, safety and comfort to our neighbors.
The name of this ministry recalls the Gospel account of Jesus wrapping a towel around himself and washing the feet of his disciples, reminding us of his call to humbly serve others.
Rice Street Community Garden
The Rice Street Community Garden, located behind the parking lot adjacent to the church, grows fresh vegetables and herbs that are donated to local food pantries and community members in need. This ministry combines stewardship of creation with feeding the hungry.
Volunteers help with planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting throughout the growing season. No gardening experience necessary—just a willingness to get your hands dirty and grow food for our neighbors!
Growing Season:
March through October. Work sessions are typically on Saturday mornings. Follow the garden on Facebook for updates.
Justice Ministry
The Justice Ministry, part of our Christian Social Concerns Committee, seeks dignity and compassion for incarcerated people and their families through pastoral care, community support, advocacy, and prayer.
“I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” (Matthew 25:36)
