From Sunday school and nursery to youth groups, special events and participating in worship, St. Philip’s offers many ways for children to be part of our community. Acolytes
Acolytes assist the clergy in worship by carrying the cross, lighting candles, setting the table and preparing the rail for communion at the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services and occasional special services.
Godly Play
Godly Play is a Montessori-based approach to Christian formation that gives children the chance to learn about God and explore their faith through storytelling, hands-on materials, imagination, and wonder. Every Sunday, we offer two classes, one for Kindergarten through 2nd grade and one for 3rd through 5th grade. Children are invited to ask questions, make connections, and wonder together as they explore the stories of our faith and discover more about God’s presence in their lives.
Good Philip
A partnership with the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd to provide ministry to children, youth and families. Volunteers assist the Youth and Family Minister with planning and implementing programs.
CrossTown
CrossTown is an interdenominational youth group open to all 6th through 12th graders. We bring students together from different churches to build friendships, grow in faith, serve our community, and have fun. CrossTown is a place where everyone is welcome and encouraged to explore their faith alongside others. Be sure to check the calendar at the top of this page, or reach out to Abby Glass for each week’s meeting location.
Youth Sunday School
Middle and high school youth are invited to join us for Sunday School! We meet at 9:15 am from September through May to discuss youth-led topics and what we can learn about them from the Bible.
Nursery
Open on Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. through the 10:30 a.m. service for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers up to age 5. Nursery helpers are paid staff members who have current ‘Safeguarding God’s Children’ diocesan training. Funding for nursery staff members is provided by the ECW.
Volunteer Opportunities
We take the safety of our children very seriously. Safeguarding God’s Children training is required for all church staff, leadership (vestry), and all volunteers working with children and youth.
