Nuggets: Sharing our History

A team of volunteers has found some treasures of history that we're sharing throughout this centennial year. Check them out here!

Cornerstone Centennial Evensong

Sunday, April 19 at 5:00 pm

A musical celebration of the 100th anniversary of the laying of our church's cornerstone!

This service of Choral Evensong will be sung by the St. Philip’s Chancel Choir, with organist Jackson Morton and special guests under the direction of Dr. Brittnee Siemon.

It will feature four-hand compositions for piano and organ, a Magnificat setting dedicated to the Rev. Elizabeth Roles, poetic texts by the Rev. Dr. Judith A. Davis, and new music by composers Thomas Rex Harrison and Jesse Kaiser.

Additional music includes Richard Sanders’ Preces and Responses and Paul Smith’s Nunc dimittis, as well as Gwyneth Walker’s Let the Life I’ve Lived Speak for Me, which will be conducted by choral scholar alumna Tamra Rouse Sutton.

We’ll be joined by Margaret Templeton, collaborative pianist for the Greenville Chorale, Bart Gilleland, bass, Brooke Mathieu, soprano, and several choral scholar alumni.

Please join us for a joyful hour of music, readings, and prayer. Admission is free and all are welcome. Refreshments will be offered after the service.

February 6, 5:30-8:30 pm

Join us for a 50s Potluck Dinner & Family Game Night as we gather as a church family to recreate an old-fashioned 1950s evening of food, games, and fellowship for all ages.

Optional 1950s dress-up is encouraged, with prizes for best attire and game winners, and nursery care provided. Please sign up in Easel Alley (outside the parish office) with your name, number attending, and the 50s-style dish you will bring or e-mail office@stphilipsbrevardnc.org

(Bad weather plan: If Transylvania County Schools are canceled or released early, the potluck will be postponed to Friday, February 13.)

Dress for the 1950s Potluck (Optional): Join the fun by dressing either in typical 1950s attire or 1950s church dress. Family photographs will be taken, dress judged and gift basket prizes awarded as follows:

2 gift baskets for families with young children (ages birth to 12)

2 gift baskets for families with teens (ages 13-19)
